After TN poll setback, NTK revamps IT wing to rebuild digital, grassroots reach

Chennai, June 2 (IANS) In the wake of a significant decline in its vote share in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) has launched a major restructuring of its Information Technology (IT) Wing as part of a wider effort to revitalise the party’s organisational network and strengthen its presence both on the ground and across digital platforms.

The reorganisation comes after the party’s vote share dropped sharply from 8.1 per cent in the previous Assembly election to around 4 per cent in the latest polls, prompting an internal assessment of the factors behind the electoral setback.

As part of the revamp, NTK has begun enrolling volunteers into its IT Wing on a district-wise and constituency-wise basis across Tamil Nadu.

Dedicated coordinators have been appointed to oversee the initiative, and the party has released WhatsApp contact numbers to facilitate the recruitment of members interested in joining its digital outreach efforts.

Party sources said the revamped IT Wing will function as a statewide network responsible for documenting and publicising NTK’s activities at the grassroots level. Volunteers will be tasked with collecting and sharing information related to party programmes, including protests, demonstrations, blood donation drives, tree plantation campaigns, educational assistance initiatives, welfare activities and public grievance submissions.

Participants will be required to upload photographs, videos, event reports, dates and location details through designated WhatsApp groups.

The material gathered from various districts will be compiled and disseminated through NTK’s official social media channels and digital platforms to enhance the party’s public visibility.

The restructuring follows a comprehensive review conducted under the guidance of NTK chief coordinator Seeman.

According to party insiders, the assessment concluded that the party’s campaign messaging during the Assembly election failed to adequately highlight its social and welfare initiatives carried out over the past 15 years. Instead, a substantial portion of the campaign and online discourse was focused on criticising the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay.

The review reportedly found that many party supporters and social media volunteers concentrated their efforts on attacking TVK rather than promoting NTK’s policies, programmes and organisational achievements.

The leadership now believes that rebuilding the party’s digital communication strategy and refocusing attention on its own political narrative will be crucial to regaining public support and strengthening NTK’s position ahead of future electoral contests.
