MP cabinet decisions: Free land titles for 48 lakh villagers; ready-made uniforms for school kids

Bhopal, June 2 (IANS) The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has announced a series of decisions that mark a significant step in rural empowerment, education, healthcare, and agriculture.

One of the decisions will grant registered title deeds under the SVAMITVA scheme. This initiative, which formalises property ownership in rural areas, will benefit millions of villagers by making it easier to access bank loans and reduce disputes.

In Madhya Pradesh, 48 lakh private properties and 1.9 million government properties have been identified, and beneficiaries will receive registered documents free of cost.

“The state will bear an expenditure of over Rs 3,800 crore, ensuring that rural households gain secure ownership without financial burden,” Chetanya Kumar Kashyap, state MSME minister said after cabinet meeting in media-briefing.

In education, the School Education Department has shifted from the earlier Direct Benefit Transfer system to direct provision of stitched uniforms for students in grades one through eight.

The DBT approach often failed to ensure actual availability of uniforms in remote tribal and rural regions. “Now, through a tendering process involving the garment industry within Madhya Pradesh, stitched uniforms will be produced and distributed to students. This change is expected to bring consistency, quality, and timely delivery, strengthening the state’s commitment to equitable education,” the minister said.

Healthcare and medical education have also received a major boost. The Cabinet has approved the continuation of three schemes for medical colleges with a budgetary allocation of Rs 17,000 crore. “This includes the construction of new colleges and an increase in postgraduate seats, addressing the growing demand for medical professionals in the state. Alongside this, the construction of the District Court building in Indore, one of the largest in Madhya Pradesh, is progressing rapidly. The project cost has been revised upward to Rs 626 crore, reflecting the scale and importance of the facility,” he said.

Agriculture remains at the heart of the state’s development agenda. This year, observed as Farmers’ Year, Madhya Pradesh has set a national record in wheat procurement.

A total of 10.4 million tonnes of wheat has been procured, the highest in the country, with over 1.3 million farmers participating, said the minister.

“Payments amounting to approximately Rs 25,000 crore have already been disbursed. This achievement is particularly significant for small and marginal farmers, who have seen remarkable increases in procurement volumes. Despite a decline during the COVID-19 period, Madhya Pradesh has now surged to the second position nationally, trailing only Punjab. Registration for Moong and Urad has also commenced to ensure timely procurement of these crops,” the minister said.
