AIADMK leader questions TN CM Vijay’s use of private bodyguard despite multi-layer security

Chennai, June 3 (IANS) AIADMK leader and Member of Parliament (RS) I.S. Inbadurai on Wednesday raised a series of questions over the security arrangements surrounding superstar-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, C. Joseph Vijay, questioning why the new chief minister continues to be accompanied by a private bodyguard despite being protected by an extensive state security apparatus.

Vijay, who led his party to victory in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and subsequently assumed office as Chief Minister, is currently protected by multiple layers of official security provided by the state government.

These arrangements include a highly restricted security network and specialised personnel tasked with ensuring the chief minister’s safety during public appearances and official engagements.

In a post on social media platform X, Inbadurai questioned the necessity of a private security aide operating alongside the official security team.

“When several layers of official security, including a specialised Core Cell, have already been provided by the government, why is the chief minister moving around with a private bodyguard?” he asked.

The AIADMK leader further wondered whether the presence of a private security personnel reflected a lack of confidence in the protection provided by the Tamil Nadu Police and other official agencies entrusted with the chief minister’s security.

He also raised concerns regarding established security protocols and access regulations governing high-security zones around the chief minister.

He questioned whether an individual who is not part of the official government security structure could legitimately function as a constant security shadow to the chief minister.

“Is it in accordance with security protocols for a person outside the official security establishment to operate as a bodyguard within the chief minister’s security perimeter?” he asked.

The Member of Parliament (MP) further sought clarification on the legal and procedural basis under which such an individual is allegedly granted access to the highly sensitive Access Control Zone maintained around the chief minister.

Describing the issue as one involving both physical security and information security, Inbadurai said the matter warranted a detailed explanation from the state government. He urged the Tamil Nadu administration to clarify whether the presence of a private bodyguard within the chief minister’s security ring complies with established security norms and whether adequate safeguards are in place to prevent any compromise of official security procedures.
