Bengaluru, June 4 (IANS) Kannada film actress Shubha Poonja has filed for divorce four years after her marriage. The actress has approached the family court in this regard, and the couple has reportedly applied for a mutual divorce.

Sumanth Mahabala, an industrialist originally from Udupi, married Shubha Poonja in January 2022. The couple were initially happy and the husband was often seen accompanying her in public. Shubha Poonja had earlier maintained that her husband was supportive of her acting career.

The couple has now stated that they will clarify the matter before the media at a later date.

Shuba Poonja, who rose to popularity through films including ‘Moggina Manasu’ and several other Kannada movies, married businessman Sumanth Mahabala in January 2022 after reportedly being in a relationship with him.

According to sources, a petition has now been filed in connection with the matter, and both Shuba Poonja and her husband are likely to appear before the court during the next hearing.

Meanwhile, Shuba Poonja has reportedly deleted photographs with her husband from her social media accounts, sparking further speculation.

The hearing on the couple’s petition has not yet been scheduled, and both are expected to appear before the court. After their marriage, Shuba Poonja and Sumanth Mahabala had also participated as contestants in the Zee Kannada reality show ‘Jodi No. 1 Season 1’. Their bonding and chemistry on the show had won the hearts of viewers.

Shuba Poonja, who also participated in the Kannada reality show ‘Bigg Boss Season 8’, had gained significant attention for her simple and lively personality during her stint on the show.

Further legal developments in the case are awaited.

She has acted in films such as ‘Slum Bala’, ‘Jai Maruti’, ‘Parari’, ‘Ambuja’, and ‘3Devi’. She has also appeared in Tamil films including ‘Thirudiya Idhayathai’, ‘Machi’, and ‘Oru Ponnu Oru Paiyan’.

Her on-screen pairing with Duniya Vijay in films like ‘Chanda’, ‘Slum Bala’, ‘Thaakath’, and ‘Kanteerava’ was a major hit.
