Hindutva group files fresh plaint with Kolkata Police against Mamata Banerjee over ‘provocative remarks’ on Home Ministry

Kolkata, June 5 (IANS) A pro-Hindutva Group on Friday filed a fresh complaint with the Cybercrime Division of Kolkata Police against former West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, for allegedly making provocative remarks against the Home Ministry.

The development surfaced just a day after a First Information Report (FIR) was registered by the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha against Mamata Banerjee on Thursday at Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station in Darjeeling district based on a complaint lodged by a lawyer there.

In the fresh complaint filed with the Kolkata Police on Friday, the group requested that exemplary action be taken against the former Chief Minister in accordance with the law.

Speaking to media persons, the group’s West Bengal president, Chandrachur Goswami said that following the derogatory remarks made about the Union Home Ministry at a demonstration in central Kolkata on June 2, the image of the Indian government had been tarnished globally.

“Because of her comments, the image of the entire country, especially West Bengal, had been tarnished. Her comments on that day had enough elements to spark communal violence in the state. Her comments that day were practically anti-nationalistic in nature. So, we have filed a complaint against her at the Cybercrime Division of the Kolkata Police and requested the latter to take action against her as per legal provisions to protect the unity and integrity of the nation,” Goswami said.

Mamata, while addressing a protest meeting on June 2, raised this issue, indicating that even if a murder took place in another country, she knew who was involved.

She accused the Home Ministry stating, “The STF arrested an accused from Bangladesh, which triggered a big protest there. I am not referring to other countries, but the point is that such individuals enter Bengal through Meghalaya. After they arrive here, the STF arrests them. The Home Minister himself has said this…. I did not say this for a long time, but today I am saying this.”

The group, while filing the complaint with Kolkata Police had argued that when Mamata Banerjee was the Chief Minister of West Bengal then, she could have taken up the matter with the Union Home Ministry directly instead of claiming now that a murder, which took place in Bangladesh, was an organised murder on the orders of the Union Home Ministry.

This, according to the complainant, could have fuelled tensions between India and Bangladesh and tarnished the country’s image globally.
