Rohini Acharya criticises RJD’s decision to renominate Sunil Singh for Bihar MLC polls

Patna, June 8 (IANS) Political activity around the Bihar Legislative Council elections intensified on Monday after the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) named former MLC Sunil Kumar Singh as its candidate.

Sunil Singh filed his nomination papers at the Bihar Legislative Assembly in the presence of senior party leaders on the final day of the nomination process.

Soon after the announcement, Rohini Acharya, the daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav, publicly expressed strong reservations over the party’s decision, renewing her criticism of Sunil Singh’s candidature.

In a post on social media platform X, Rohini alleged that Sunil Singh’s political style was marked by factionalism, sabotage, and betrayal.

She accused him of maintaining ties with political opponents and of misusing his proximity to the party leadership.

She further claimed that his conduct towards party workers and office-bearers had often been inappropriate and disrespectful.

Questioning the rationale behind his renomination, Rohini wrote that the responsibility of strengthening the movement for social justice and improving the party organization should have been entrusted to committed and loyal workers.

She argued that overlooking long-serving grassroots leaders had created resentment among party cadres and supporters.

Rohini Acharya also emphasized that since the party’s inception, many dedicated leaders from minority, Yadav, Dalit, backward, and other marginalized communities have remained steadfastly committed to the ideals of Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Ignoring such leaders, she said, was a matter of concern and not in the larger interest of the party.

Despite the internal criticism, the RJD has once again reposed its faith in Sunil Kumar Singh, who is widely regarded as being close to former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi.

According to the current arithmetic of the Bihar Legislative Council elections, the RJD is considered well-positioned to secure one seat.

A candidate requires the support of around 25 MLAs to win, and based on the numerical strength of the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) in the Assembly, Sunil Singh’s election to the Legislative Council is widely seen as likely.
