Kolkata, June 8 (IANS) Trinamool Congress leader Shreya Pandey on Monday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake here in connection with the Sona Pappu-linked syndicate case.
She was scheduled to appear on Tuesday. However, the Trinamool leader appeared at the ED office a day earlier.
Investigators said Pandey’s name cropped up during the examination of digital devices, including mobile phones, as part of the ongoing probe.
Although Shreya claimed on social media that she had voluntarily appeared before the ED, she did not receive any summons for Monday. She also claimed that she did not know any Sona Pappu, the strongman linked with the syndicate case.
According to ED sources, Shreya, the daughter of former state minister Sadhan Pandey, was summoned for questioning on Tuesday.
Earlier, the ED had called and questioned Kalyan Shukla, who is known to be close to Shreya. According to ED sources, documents of land fraud were found at his house.
Businessman Joy Kamdar has already been arrested in the case. Sources said Pandey had visited his residence on three occasions during Kali Puja, where leaders from various political parties were also present.
Biswajit Poddar alias Sona Pappu had gone into hiding after being named in the Rabindra Sarovar clashes in February, though he remained active on social media. The ED conducted searches at his residence in April, along with that of Kamdar, seizing cash, an expensive vehicle, and property-related documents.
Poddar later appeared before the ED on May 18 and was subsequently arrested. ED sources said multiple FIRs have been registered against him, with allegations including land grabbing, extortion, and intimidation. He is suspected of having operated several syndicates across Kasba and Ballygunge in south Kolkata.
