Nagpur, June 8 (IANS) Maharashtra Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Monday termed the MahaYuti government’s recently announced farmer loan waiver scheme as “deceptive” and demanded an unconditional, blanket waiver for all farmers.

Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Wadettiwar demanded that the state government provide an unconditional blanket loan waiver to all farmers instead of imposing complicated terms and conditions.

Wadettiwar alleged that the MahaYuti administration has excluded lakhs of farmers who had previously benefited from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government’s loan waiver scheme. Consequently, the actual number of beneficiaries will be significantly lower than the figures being projected by the government.

He characterised the scheme as a misleading tactic aimed at deceiving the farming community.

Expressing deep concern over the agrarian crisis, Wadettiwar pointed out that a harsh summer, coupled with a delayed monsoon, has cast a shadow of drought over Maharashtra.

“Farmers and the general public are in deep distress due to unseasonal rain damage, ongoing issues faced by onion growers, and the uncertainty of the monsoon. Given these challenges, the Chief Minister must immediately convene an all-party meeting,” he demanded.

He emphasised the urgent need for a comprehensive, bipartisan discussion to address the pressing grievances of farmers and the various challenges confronting the state.

Commenting on national politics, Wadettiwar stated that Monday’s meeting of the INDIA bloc is of paramount importance against the backdrop of grave economic, educational, and social crises gripping the country.

According to Wadettiwar, the high-level meeting will see in-depth deliberations on critical issues, including growing resentment among the youth and students regarding paper leaks, gross mismanagement in national examination and evaluation processes, the rising cost of living affecting common citizens due to inflation, and escalating prices of petrol, diesel, and domestic LPG cylinders.

“The country’s youth are taking to the streets to demand justice. Trust in the education system has been severely shaken, and the future of students hangs in the balance due to frequent paper leaks and systemic flaws in exams. The INDIA bloc will stand united to push for effective, concrete solutions to these problems,” Wadettiwar asserted.
