New Delhi, June 9 (IANS) A major fire broke out at a tyre rubber processing factory in the Rajendra Nagar area of Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district on Tuesday morning, prompting a swift response from the fire department.

Officials said the blaze was brought under control after nearly an hour of firefighting, and no casualties were reported.

According to fire department officials, information about the fire was received at around 7:30 a.m., following which fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot.

Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Rahul Pal said, “Today, at around 7:30 a.m., information was received at Sahibabad Fire Station about a fire at a factory where tyre rubber processing work was being carried out. Immediately, two fire tenders from Sahibabad Fire Station…fire was found to have engulfed the factory…”

As the intensity of the fire became clear, additional firefighting units were deployed.

A total of four fire tenders worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby industrial units. Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control after nearly an hour of operations.

Authorities said an assessment of the damage is being carried out, while the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries or loss of life have been reported.

The latest incident comes amid heightened focus on fire safety in Ghaziabad.

Earlier, the fire department launched a drive against hotels and guest houses that were found violating fire safety norms.

Over the past two days, notices were served to 10 establishments after inspections revealed deficiencies in compliance with mandatory fire-safety requirements.

CFO Rahul Pal had said that teams were conducting inspections of hotels, guest houses and similar establishments to verify fire safety clearances and adherence to statutory norms.

More than 50 hotels and guest houses were inspected during the drive.

The enforcement action followed directions from the state fire directorate after a devastating fire in Delhi’s Hauz Rani area claimed at least 22 lives.

In another recent incident in April, a fire broke out in a residential housing society in Ghaziabad. The blaze originated in a ninth-floor flat where construction work was underway.

Fire officials had managed to control the fire completely, and no injuries were reported in that incident as well.
