Hyderabad, June 10 (IANS) A man shot his wife dead in Malkajgiri on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Wednesday over marital discord.

The incident occurred within the limits of Malkajgiri Police Station, Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate.

Arun Kumar, a resident of Maruthi Nagar who is in the real estate business, opened fire at his wife, Nisha Rani, during an argument.

The accused had come to the house in the morning to discuss his differences with his wife. The victim died on the spot due to gunshot injuries.

The accused fled the scene. Another person was said to be accompanying the accused, and police suspect that he might have helped in the killing.

Locals, who heard the gunfire, informed police. The body of the victim was shifted to the mortuary of Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad for post-mortem examination.

Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Teams have been formed to nab the accused and his accomplice.

The couple had been married for five years. Arun was previously married to Rani’s elder sister, Swarnalatha, and has two children with his first wife. After divorcing Swarnalatha, he married her younger sister, Nisha Rani. It was a love marriage, but they recently began to have differences.

Arun Kumar was caught with a weapon in the Amberpet area during a vehicle check by police three months ago. Police suspect that he procured another weapon through a friend.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad police have busted an illegal adoption racket. It rescued a 12-day-old physically disabled baby boy, allegedly sold for Rs 1.7 lakh to a childless couple through middlemen.

A zero FIR was registered at Kulsumpura Police Station and transferred to Nandigama Police Station (Ranga Reddy District) for further investigation on jurisdictional grounds.

The police on Tuesday received a formal written complaint from K. Ramu, an officer in the Women and Child Welfare Department, Hyderabad.

Upon receiving credible information regarding the illegal sale and transfer of a newborn male infant, the Child Welfare Department conducted an official inquiry.

Madhusudhan and Meena, a couple who had remained childless for about 18 years, approached one Potharaju Suresh seeking his assistance in procuring a child. Subsequently, Suresh contacted Padma Paltiya.

The infant was born on May 28 at a private hospital in Tukkuguda to Mohan and his wife, Sandhya. The couple handed over the infant to Padma, a relative of the child’s father, Mohan.
