Bengal: Kakali Ghosh Dastidar’s son sends legal notice to Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool MPs

Kolkata, June 13 (IANS) Trinamool Congress rebel MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar’s son Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar on Saturday sent a legal notice to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool MPs Sougata Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, Mahua Moitra and former Trinamool leader Sonali Guha for making false, defamatory and unwarranted references against him.

In a statement, Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar clarified that he never sought an MLA ticket from the Barasat Assembly constituency. He said claims suggesting otherwise were false and defamatory in nature.

He also strongly denied statements allegedly made by Sonali Guha that he, his brother and his mother, Kakali Ghosh Dastidar, MP from Barasat, regularly consumed alcohol. He said these allegations were completely untrue.

The statement further read that his advocate, Pooja Shukla, had prepared and he had signed a legal notice addressed to Mamata Banerjee, Sougata Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, Mahua Moitra and Sonali Guha. The notice is expected to be served on Monday.

It may be noted that Sonali Guha and other Trinamool leaders recently made comments that Kakali Ghosh Dastidar became a rebel MP after the party denied her son a ticket to contest the recently concluded Assembly polls from the Barasat constituency.

He said he had requested a public apology and retraction of these statements. Failing an appropriate response, he intended to pursue such legal remedies as may be available to him under the law, including proceedings for defamation.

Incidentally, the rebel Trinamool MPs led by Kakali Ghosh Dastidar have already held a meeting at the house of Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was present there. On Saturday, Sudip Bandyopadhyay joined the rebel camp. They have decided to join the BJP‑led NDA alliance.

The Kolkata Uttar MP of Trinamool Congress was seen in a car with rebel MP Satabdi Roy in Delhi on Saturday. He left for the BJP leader and Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav’s house with Satabdi in the same car from Delhi airport.
