Kolkata, June 14 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will visit Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Monday and launch a special six-day cleanliness drive, ‘Welcome to Cleanliness’.

The drive will be organised across the city and will continue for the next six days. CM Adhikari will launch the drive from the KMC headquarters in central Kolkata.

The Chief Minister will address the event and share the state government’s steps for various developmental activities to be carried out by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

This is the first time that Suvendu Adhikari, as the Chief Minister, will attend a programme of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation at the Municipal Hall.

In view of the visit and the event, hectic activity has been going on in the municipal administration since Saturday evening. The BJP’s municipal representatives, led by MLA and councillor Sajal Ghosh, will welcome the Chief Minister.

It is worth noting that no Chief Minister has visited the Kolkata Municipal Hall for a government programme in the recent past. Suvendu Adhikari is going to set another precedent in the history of civic service with this visit and event.

Recently, former Minister Firhad Hakim resigned from the post of Mayor of Kolkata, following which an administrator was appointed to run the civic body.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to Kolkata on June 21 to attend the World Yoga Day programme. The Prime Minister will participate in the main programme on Red Road. Along with this, the entire city will practically be involved in this programme that day. Therefore, a special cleanliness drive is being started by the KMC in and around Kolkata with a programme titled ‘Welcoming Cleanliness’.

The programme that the Chief Minister will launch will continue till June 20. This special cleanliness drive will be carried out in all 144 wards of Kolkata till Yoga Day. It is to be noted that state Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul has already launched a special app on the cleanliness drive in the entire state.
