New Delhi, June 17 (IANS) In a major crackdown on illegal liquor smuggling, Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested a 25-year-old supplier and recovered 1,900 quarters of illicit liquor being transported from Haryana into the national capital. A car used for ferrying the consignment was also seized.

The operation was carried out as part of a special drive launched under the directions of DCP Dwarka District, Kushal Pal Singh, to curb organised crime and illegal activities in the district. Acting on specific intelligence received during evening patrolling on June 13, the police team learned that a white-coloured Ritz car carrying a large consignment of illegal liquor would pass through the nala road area.

Based on the information, a dedicated team led by Inspector Sunil Kumar Rohilla, SHO Dwarka North, and comprising ASI Rajesh Kumar, Head Constable Mahipal, HC Vikash Kumar and HC Dinesh Kumar, under the supervision of ACP Kishor Kumar Rewala, laid a trap near the Delhi Jal Board Service Road on Golf Link Road in Sector-16D, Dwarka.

During the operation, the police intercepted the suspected vehicle and apprehended the accused, identified as Rahul, son of Hariom, a resident of Ismaila village in Rohtak district of Haryana. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 38 cartons of Deshi Sharab, each containing 50 quarters, amounting to a total of 1,900 quarters of illicit liquor.

Following the recovery, a case under FIR No. 192/2026 was registered at Police Station Dwarka North under Sections 33, 38 and 58(D) of the Delhi Excise Act. The liquor and the vehicle used in the commission of the offence were seized.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that financial difficulties had driven him to illegal activities. Police records indicate that he has no previous criminal involvement.

Further investigation in the case is underway.

Last month, Delhi Police’s South District personnel busted a well-organised inter-state liquor smuggling syndicate operating between Delhi, Gurugram, and Bengaluru, recovering illicit liquor worth approximately Rs 1.50 crore and arresting three bootleggers involved in the racket.

According to Delhi Police, the operation was carried out by the Mehrauli Police Station team following sustained surveillance, patrolling, and intelligence gathering in the area amid repeated incidents related to illicit liquor smuggling.

Police said a dedicated team had been constituted to identify and apprehend bootleggers operating within the jurisdiction of Police Station Mehrauli.
