Bengal: Complaint filed against Mahua Moitra for provocative remarks

Kolkata, June 17 (IANS) A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader named Hirak Bhattacharya has filed a police complaint against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for making provocative remarks. The complaint was lodged at the Hogalbaria police station in Karimpur, Nadia district, on Wednesday.

The complaint stated that Mahua Moitra is repeatedly making remarks that are hurting religious sentiments and attempting to disturb Hindu-Muslim harmony in the state.

A few days ago, several BJP women leaders were standing outside the Krishnanagar District Sessions Court, holding eggs and tomatoes. They claimed that Mahua Moitra could appear in court in connection with an old case, and if she did, eggs and tomatoes would be thrown at her.

Following this, Mahua Moitra herself made two videos of her statements and posted them on Facebook.

In her first statement, she said she would file a complaint with the police station against all the women seen at the court premises, ready to throw eggs.

She warned that if the police station did not take the complaint, she would go to court, even the Supreme Court.

The next day, she made another video, saying she would file an FIR naming all the women who were standing in the video.

She mocked them, saying, “Instead of throwing eggs like this, throw eggs wearing a burqa. Then no one will see you. Then there will be no complaint against you.”

The MP’s statement went viral on social media.

Following this, the BJP leader decided to file a complaint against her for making provocative remarks aimed at breaking religious harmony between the two communities.

A senior officer of the Nadia district police said that the police have received the complaint and are looking into the matter.
