J&K: NIA attaches properties in Pak-backed terror case in Baramulla (Lead)

Srinagar, June 17 (IANS) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said on Wednesday that it has attached properties of an accused in a Pakistan-backed terror conspiracy case in J&K’s Baramulla district.

A press statement by the agency said that as part of its operation in Jammu & Kashmir, the NIA attached two properties of key accused Shaheen Ahmad Lone, who was found to be involved in smuggling arms, ammunition and explosives from Pakistan through the LoC.

The weapons and explosives were supplied to terrorists of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) organisations for carrying out terror activities in the Kashmir valley.

NIA investigations also found Lone, against whom a trial is ongoing in case RC-01/2020/NIA/JMU in the NIA Special Court, Jammu, to be actively involved in receiving and transferring funds to terrorists. Lone was arrested in September 2020 and chargesheeted in March 2021 under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The two properties attached today under Section 33(1) of the UA(P) Act, pursuant to orders of the NIA Special Court, Jammu, are located in Kanispora village of Baramulla district. They include a residential house built on a 7.5 marla plot and a 6 marla plot, on which a shed had been constructed.

NIA cases in Jammu and Kashmir primarily target terror funding, cross-LoC arms networks, and underground militant operatives. These investigations often result in coordinated raids and attachment of properties belonging to accused individuals and Overground Workers (OGWs).

In addition to today’s action, NIA has recently conducted searches at multiple locations, including Shopian, to seize incriminating devices and documents related to Jamaat-e-Islami terror funding networks.

The agency regularly conducts multi-district sweeps across Srinagar, Pulwama, Kupwara, and Poonch to disrupt activities of The Resistance Front (TRF) and cross-border militant conspiracies.
