Kolkata, June 18 (IANS) Just hours after Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari’s visit to Falta Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district on Wednesday, a BJP worker was attacked in Falta’s Kalatala Haat area, the police said on Thursday.

The injured BJP worker, Sushanta Mondal (45), was allegedly attacked by a group of miscreants late on Wednesday night and beaten up severely with sticks. Mondal was found in a serious condition and admitted to Diamond Harbour Super Specialty Hospital.

According to locals, Mondal was sitting in front of his grandfather’s medical centre in Kalatala Haat area like every other day on Wednesday evening, when some people came there and allegedly attacked him.

It is alleged that the attackers suddenly started beating him without any reason. Due to the beating, he was seriously injured and fell on the ground in a bloody state.

Hearing his screams, local residents rushed to the spot and the miscreants ran away on seeing the crowd.

The local residents then took the injured Sushanta to Diamond Harbour Super Specialty Hospital where he is currently undergoing medical treatment for his injuries.

After the incident, a written complaint was filed at Falta police station by the victim’s family. The police have started an investigation based on the complaint. According to the police, they are also investigating whether there is a political reason behind the attack.

Diamond Harbour SDPO Vijay Yadav said, “A complaint has been filed with Falta police station by the victim’s family. The entire matter is being investigated.”

Local BJP workers and supporters alleged that miscreants from the Trinamool Congress were involved in the attack.

They demanded that the culprits be identified and arrested quickly and the incident be thoroughly investigated.

Local resident and BJP activist Shakti Dalui said, “Sushanta was sitting in front of his grandfather’s medical centre. At night, some miscreants came there and suddenly attacked him.”

Dalui claimed, “He was beaten severely with sticks by some Trinamool-affiliated people. Later, when he was lying on the ground in a bloody state, the locals rescued him and took him to the hospital.”
