Betul, June 18 (IANS) President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday called for bridging the gap between tradition and technology in tribal regions, asserting that modern education, skill development and digital empowerment must reach tribal youth without eroding their cultural identity and spiritual heritage.

Addressing the conference on “Empowerment of Tribal Society by Spiritual Awakening” organised by the Brahma Kumaris at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district, the President said India’s tribal communities possess unique civilisational wisdom rooted in spirituality, environmental stewardship and community values, which should be preserved even as they are integrated into the country’s development journey.

Speaking at the gathering attended by thousands of tribal community members, spiritual leaders and government representatives, President Murmu emphasised that the rapidly changing world demands greater access to technology and modern opportunities for tribal youth.

She said tribal empowerment must combine modern education and digital skills with cultural preservation.

The President stressed that development should not come at the cost of traditional values. “A balance between development and culture forms the foundation of a strong and prosperous society. True development is that which remains rooted in our heritage and core values while strengthening them,” she noted.

Murmu observed that tribal communities have historically maintained a harmonious relationship with nature and continue to embody principles increasingly relevant in an era marked by environmental concerns.

She said their way of life, imbued with spirituality and respect for natural resources, fosters universal well‑being.

Highlighting the significance of spiritual values in contemporary society, she said growing consumerism and modern pressures have made spiritual awareness more important than ever. She added that spiritual purity is crucial for building an egalitarian code of conduct and a lifestyle sensitive to natural resources.

President Murmu lauded the Brahma Kumaris for promoting spiritual awakening, women’s empowerment, youth development, de‑addiction campaigns and social upliftment among tribal communities.

Referring to Betul’s rich tribal heritage, she said the district has preserved invaluable traditions of cooperation, simplicity, honesty and community living, which serve as a model for sustainable development.

Calling for collective efforts towards nation‑building, the President urged all sections of society to contribute to the vision of a developed India by 2047, where technological progress, cultural preservation, social harmony and environmental conservation advance hand in hand.
