Congress leader Pawan Khera challenges RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat

New Delhi, June 18 (IANS) In a sharp attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Congress Media and Publicity Department Chairman Pawan Khera urged RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat to demonstrate accountability by presenting “his papers” and bringing the organisation under the ambit of the Indian Constitution.

Khera’s remarks came in response to recent statements by Bhagwat and an alleged threat‑like comment made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ramesh Jigajinagi.

In a post on his X handle, Khera shared a video and said, “Mohan Bhagwat ji, you talk about showing papers to the people of India; now you too will have to make your papers and show them.”

He criticised the Sangh Parivar, saying that “it is said you scratch the skin of a Sanghi and you will find a horrible, casteist and communal monster.”

Khera referred to Bhagwat’s recent observation that Hinduism is not restricted and questioned why the Sangh should face restrictions.

He highlighted an incident involving Karnataka BJP MP Jigajinagi, who reportedly attacked Priyank Kharge during a meeting and questioned why Dalits should be worried about the Sangh. Khera directly confronted the ideology behind such remarks.

“You are a very honest person. There are many high‑spirited slogans coming from Nagpur, one well, one temple, one crematorium. In reality, how does the Sangh think about Dalits? How can an educated Dalit raise his head to ask questions of the Sangh? This is your truth,” he said.

He emphasised that Dalits and all citizens are concerned not just for any organisation but for the country itself. “Everyone except the Sangh is worried; that is why we want you under the realm of the Constitution. That is why we are asking questions,” Khera asserted.

The Congress leader accused the MP of issuing threats. “Whosoever takes on the Sangh, asks questions to the Sangh, they are finished. Are you threatening us?” Khera asked, directing the question to Mohan Bhagwat: “Is he (Jigajinagi) your man? Is he threatening Priyank Kharge ji and all of us?”

Drawing historical parallels, Khera referenced Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination in 1948 and the Sangh’s alleged role, along with the slogan “Congress‑Mukt Bharat”.

He described an ongoing ideological struggle between the Sangh and the Constitution, invoking the names of Babasaheb Ambedkar and Jawaharlal Nehru.

Khera noted that while the Sangh is a 100‑year‑old organisation, the spirit of Bharat and constitutional values have deeper roots. “Every time the spirit of Bharat wins. Every time the Constitution wins,” he declared.

In a strong appeal to Mohan Bhagwat, Pawan Khera warned that the RSS must adopt the spirit of the Constitution. “You keep demanding papers from everyone; now you have to show papers,” he said, pointing at Mohan Bhagwat.
