Western disturbance to intensify weather activity in Rajasthan over next few days

Jaipur, June 19 (IANS) A fresh Western Disturbance has become active over Rajasthan, bringing rain and thunderstorms to several parts of the state over the past 24 hours.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sri Vijaynagar in Sri Ganganagar district recorded the highest rainfall at 85 mm. The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has forecast increased weather activity over the next 48 hours, with parts of the Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Ajmer divisions, along with the Shekhawati region, likely to experience intense thunderstorms, gusty winds reaching 60-70 kmph, and scattered moderate to heavy rainfall.

The IMD has also predicted scattered light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in parts of the Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Kota divisions during the same period.

Officials said the current weather conditions are being driven by the newly activated Western Disturbance, which is expected to keep the atmosphere unstable across large parts of the state.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity, particularly in areas expected to experience strong winds and lightning.

According to the forecast, thunderstorm and gusty wind activity is likely to persist at isolated locations in the Bikaner, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions from June 21 to June 24. However, rainfall activity is expected to weaken gradually over southern Rajasthan in the coming days.

Meanwhile, temperatures remained varied across the state, with Sri Ganganagar emerging as the hottest location after recording a maximum temperature of 41.5 degrees Celsius. Phalodi and Jalore registered the highest overnight temperature at 30.2 degrees C, while Pilani (Jhunjhunu) and Sikar recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 21.5 degrees Celsius.

The fresh spell of rain has brought relief from rising temperatures in several districts and is expected to improve moisture conditions across parts of the state.
