Guwahati, June 20 (IANS) The Indian Army organised a comprehensive medical camp for ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and their dependants at Rupai in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Saturday, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and well-being of the veteran community, officials said.

The camp was organised by the Red Shield Division under the Spear Corps as part of the Army’s ongoing outreach initiatives aimed at providing healthcare and administrative support to former servicemen and their families.

According to officials, around 150 ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and dependants participated in the programme and availed themselves of a range of medical and welfare services.

A dedicated team of Army doctors and healthcare professionals conducted comprehensive health check-ups, including general medical consultations, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, dental examinations and specialist medical advice.

Participants were also provided with essential medicines free of cost.

In addition to physical healthcare services, the camp focused on mental well-being.

Psychological counselling and guidance sessions were organised to help beneficiaries address emotional and mental health concerns while promoting resilience and healthy living practices.

The medical team also conducted awareness sessions on preventive healthcare, lifestyle-related diseases and the importance of regular health monitoring, particularly among senior citizens and retired defence personnel.

As part of the event, a SPARSH Grievance Cell was established to assist veterans with pension-related matters.

Officials helped beneficiaries resolve issues related to pension documentation, digital registration and other administrative concerns through one-on-one interactions.

The initiative enabled participants to receive timely guidance and support on pending grievances.

In a gesture of respect and gratitude, Veer Naris attending the camp were felicitated for their sacrifice and contribution to the nation.

Army officials said the interaction served as an opportunity to acknowledge the role played by the families of soldiers in national service.

The event also facilitated direct interaction between Army personnel and members of the veteran fraternity, strengthening ties and fostering mutual trust.

Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the camp brought essential healthcare and administrative services closer to the veteran community.

Officials said the programme reflected the Indian Army’s enduring ethos of “Serving Those Who Once Served the Nation” and its continued commitment to the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.
