Delhi L-G TS Sandhu leads DDA’s Yoga Day celebrations

New Delhi, June 21 (IANS) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu led DDA’s 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations, which were organised across 29 sports complexes, parks and public spaces in the National Capital, said an official on Sunday.

The large-scale observance witnessed enthusiastic participation from thousands of citizens who joined Yoga sessions conducted throughout the city as part of DDA’s efforts to promote health, wellness and active living.

The main Yoga programme was held at Yamuna Sports Complex, where the Lieutenant Governor, who is also the Chairman of DDA, was joined by Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, said an official statement.

N. Saravana Kumar, Vice Chairman, DDA, along with senior officers of DDA and other distinguished participants, also attended the programme, which witnessed enthusiastic participation of Yoga lovers.

In line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under whose leadership Yoga has evolved into a global movement promoting physical, mental and emotional well-being, the DDA facilitated large-scale public participation in the celebrations across the National Capital, said the statement.

This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, underscores the vital role of Yoga in enhancing physical, mental and emotional well-being across all age groups and fostering healthy and active ageing.

The DDA organised Yoga sessions at 29 venues across Delhi, including sports facilities, namely Yamuna Sports Complex, Siri Fort Sports Complex, Saket Sports Complex, Netaji Sports Complex (Jasola), Vasant Kunj Sports Complex, Hari Nagar Sports Complex, Paschim Vihar Sports Complex, Dwarka Sports Complex (Sector-11), Major Dhyan Chand Sports Complex (Ashok Vihar) and Rohini Sports Complex.

Sessions were also organised at Rashtriya Swabhiman Khel Parisar (Pitampura), Poorv Delhi Khel Parisar (Dilshad Garden), Chilla Sports Complex, Squash & Badminton Stadium (Siri Fort), Commonwealth Games Village Sports Complex, Dwarka Sports Complex (Sector-17), Roshanara Club and Bhalswa Golf Course.

Yoga sessions were also organised at several DDA parks and green spaces, including Baansera, Swarn Jayanti Park (Rohini), Coronation Park (Burari), Hauz Khas Park, Satya Park (Naraina Phase-II), District Park (G-17, Paschim Vihar), Ashoka Garden (Ashok Vihar, Phase-IV), DDA Park (GK-I), Vijay Mandal Park (Malviya Nagar) and Sanjay Lake Park (Trilokpuri), said the statement.

The sessions comprised Yoga asanas, pranayama, breathing exercises, guided meditation and wellness activities conducted under the guidance of trained Yoga instructors deputed by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. People from all walks of life, including students, sports enthusiasts and members of local communities, actively participated in the programmes organised throughout the city, it said.
