Trinamool Congress state minority call chief Mosaraf Hussen resigns from post

Kolkata, June 21 (IANS) Trinamool Congress MLA and state minority cell chief Mosaraf Hussen on Sunday announced his resignation from the party post.

Hussen, the MLA from Itahar constituency in North Dinajpur district, announced this decision at a press conference at his residence.

Although he cited his mother’s illness as the reason, he also admitted that he has contacts with the rebel camp of Trinamool MLAs in the Assembly. He also said that he has a good relationship with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and wants to work for the development of the state under his leadership in the future.

As the first Budget session of the new state government began on Friday, Hussen was absent from the house, raising questions about which Trinamool camp he was aligned with. It was then speculated that he had distanced himself from the Mamata Banerjee camp and was getting close to the rebel camp, led by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Ritabrata Banerjee.

On Sunday, that speculation came true after his press conference.

“I am no longer able to work as before due to the change in the state government. Moreover, my mother returned home from Mecca a few days ago due to illness. In this condition, I have not been able to go to the Assembly for a few days. Therefore, I do not want to work for the minority cell of the Trinamool Congress,” he said.

Out of the five Trinamool MLAs from North Dinajpur district, four have already joined Ritabrata Banerjee’s rebel Trinamool camp.

Meanwhile, Hussen praised Chief Minister Adhikari. “The Chief Minister was once an observer of this district for our party. Since then, we have had a good relationship with him. Moreover, it is important to develop the area. Talks have been held with the Leader of the Opposition, Ritabrata Banerjee.”

On Monday, the first budget of the new BJP government will be presented in the state Assembly for the financial year 2026-27. Hussen said he is likely to attend the Assembly then.
