Patna, June 23 (IANS) Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar visited Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Tuesday, where he inaugurated the Radiology Department located on the first floor of the newly constructed Tower-3 and reviewed various facilities available to patients.

Senior officials from the Health Department and the hospital administration were present at the inauguration ceremony.

Following the inauguration, the minister inspected several hospital departments and reviewed the functioning of the newly installed medical equipment and diagnostic facilities.

During the visit, he took stock of patient care services, functioning of radiology equipment, hospital infrastructure, availability of medical facilities, and ongoing development and construction projects.

The Health Minister directed hospital officials to immediately report any problems or deficiencies in the institution. He emphasised that providing quality treatment and better healthcare facilities to patients remains the government’s highest priority. He also warned that negligence at any level would not be tolerated.

Nishant Kumar reviewed the ongoing construction and modernisation work at PMCH and instructed officials to complete pending projects within the prescribed timeline while maintaining quality standards.

PMCH is currently undergoing major redevelopment and infrastructure expansion, with more than 5,500 beds, to improve healthcare services and increase patient capacity.

While leaving the hospital premises, the minister interacted with patients and their attendants to understand their concerns.

During the interaction, one individual reportedly complained about nursing services. The minister immediately sought an explanation from the concerned nursing staff regarding the complaint.

Earlier, Nishant Kumar had acknowledged receiving repeated complaints regarding conditions and services at PMCH after assuming charge of the Health Department. He had described these complaints as serious and indicated that corrective measures, including surprise inspections and regular monitoring, would be undertaken to improve healthcare services.

Tuesday’s visit is being viewed as part of those ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability and improve patient care at one of Bihar’s largest government hospitals.
