Jamaat-e-Islami Hind backs AIMPLB’s nationwide movement, says campaign will include Hindus

New Delhi, June 23 (IANS) Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Malik Motasim Khan, on Tuesday said that the decision of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) to launch a nationwide movement against “social and political marginalisation of Muslims and the demolition of mosques and madrasas” will also include Hindus.

Speaking to IANS, Malik Motasim Khan said, “The Muslim Personal Law Board is an important institution. Even if they had not made this announcement, this work still had to be done.”

“Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is being implemented in the country. It has been implemented in Gujarat and Uttarakhand. Now it has been done in Assam as well. Preparations are underway in Madhya Pradesh. Mosques are being demolished across the country. Demolitions are continuing in the same way. The issue is not just one. Many people are arrested and do not get bail. There is an atmosphere of fear,” he added.

Khan asserted that a campaign needs to be run on this so that people “gain confidence and respect the constitutional values”. “There will be a dialogue,” he said.

Malik Motasim Khan further said: “The campaign is not just for Muslims; it will be run by both Muslims and non-Muslims and will be against the unconstitutional things in the country. The campaign will include those Hindu brothers who stand in favour of justice.”

He mentioned that the campaign aims to protect the constitutional guarantees of liberty, equality, fraternity, justice and freedom of religion in the country.

The Executive Committee of AIMPLB constituted an Action Committee to coordinate with democracy-loving and peace-loving sections of society for the movement to highlight the “promotion of hatred and hostility, the damage to communal harmony, attacks on the life, property, honour and dignity of Muslims,” said a statement.

Earlier, a meeting presided over by Board President Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani noted that the “forced implementation of the UCC is contrary to the religious freedom guaranteed under Article 25 of the Constitution of India”.

The Executive Committee also expressed concern over the “ongoing legislative efforts in BJP-ruled states in the name of the Uniform Civil Code”.
