Jammu, June 25 (IANS) Ahead of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2026), police in J&K’s Jammu district on Thursday carried out a cordon and search operation (CASO) in houses of known gangsters and drug peddlers in the R.S. Pura area.

Police said that as part of sustained efforts to maintain peace, strengthen security and prevent anti-social activities, Jammu Police conducted the CASO in sensitive hotspot locations within the jurisdiction of Police Station R.S. Pura on June 24, 2026, between 5 pm and 7.30 pm.

The operation was conducted jointly by the Police Station R.S. Pura, personnel of the 165 Battalion BSF, and the CISF 262 Battalion. Searches covered several locations in the Chakroi area, including residences of persons with previous criminal antecedents, houses in Village Joura Farm, an abandoned structure in the village and the nearby ditch/nallah area. Similar operations were also carried out in the Baspur Bangla area.

All identified locations were thoroughly searched in the presence of family members and occupants while strictly adhering to legal procedures. No suspicious person, contraband substance, incriminating material or objectionable article was found. The operation remained peaceful and concluded without incident.

Following the searches, No Damage Certificates were obtained from family members and occupants of the houses. Police said such operations will continue regularly to strengthen the security environment and enhance public confidence.

As part of maximum alertness to secure the upcoming SANJY-2026, police in Anantnag district have put in place a specialised, coordinated and technology-linked security arrangement named ‘Project Hawk Eye’.

The project involves drones, CCTV cameras, surveillance equipment and specially trained commandos monitoring the Yatra route from vantage posts.
