Patna, June 25 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, while speaking at a program organised to observe ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’, addressed the controversy surrounding the encounter death of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari and stated that the government would ensure that no injustice is done to anyone.

Referring to the Bhojpur encounter case, Choudhary claimed that the Bihar government acted promptly after the incident by ordering a judicial enquiry and constituting a high-level commission to investigate the matter.

He emphasised that justice must prevail and that action would be taken against anyone found responsible for wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, the judicial enquiry into the Bharat Tiwari encounter remains ongoing, with the government maintaining that the investigation will determine the facts and accountability, if any, related to the incident.

The event was also attended by Union Minister J.P. Nadda, during which Choudhary spoke about the government’s public outreach efforts and welfare initiatives.

He stated that citizens’ grievances were being heard and addressed through government programs and assured that pensioners left out of existing schemes would be considered through an appropriate committee mechanism.

During his address, Choudhary also focussed extensively on the anniversary of the Emergency imposed in India on June 25, 1975.

He described the Emergency as a dark chapter in the country’s democratic history and characterised it as an attack on democratic institutions, freedom of expression, and civil liberties.

According to him, June 25 serves as a reminder of a period when democratic values were challenged, and citizens’ rights were adversely affected.

He paid tribute to those who opposed the Emergency and referred to them as democracy warriors, praising their commitment to democratic principles despite difficult circumstances.

The Chief Minister stated that safeguarding democracy, respecting the Constitution, and protecting the voice of the people are the most meaningful ways to honour those who resisted the Emergency.

He also noted that individuals associated with movements opposing the Emergency would be honoured on its anniversary.

The remarks have intensified political debate in Bihar, where differing views on the Emergency continue to shape discussions between the ruling alliance and Opposition parties.

While some political groups regard the Emergency as one of the gravest assaults on democracy in India, others emphasise the historical circumstances that led to its imposition.
