Guwahati, June 25 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the Assam Police on Thursday seized a huge consignment of an intoxicating substance valued at around Rs 2.34 crore in Sribhumi district and arrested three persons in connection with the case.

Sharing details of the operation on social media platform X, the Chief Minister lauded the efforts of the district police and reiterated the state government’s commitment to its ongoing anti-drug campaign.

“Some lessons are expensive. For this drug network, the bill came to Rs 2.34 crore,” Chief Minister Sarma said, referring to the estimated value of the seized contraband.

According to the Chief Minister, the operation was carried out by the Sribhumi Police, which recovered 11,695 bottles of an intoxicating substance during the raid.

Three persons allegedly linked to the network were apprehended on the spot.

Praising the police personnel involved in the operation, CM Sarma said, “Kudos to Sribhumi Police for seizing 11,695 bottles of an intoxicating substance and apprehending three individuals.”

The Chief Minister also issued a stern warning to drug traffickers and organised smuggling networks operating in the state.

“You can keep trying, but Assam Police will always try harder,” he said, reaffirming the state government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and illegal intoxicants.

The seizure is part of the Assam government’s sustained crackdown on drug trafficking under the ‘#AssamAgainstDrugs’ campaign launched after the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Assam government assumed charge.

Over the past few years, police and other enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance along interstate and international routes, leading to the recovery of narcotics, psychotropic substances and illicit liquor worth hundreds of crores.

Officials said investigations are underway to ascertain the origin and intended destination of the seized consignment and to identify other members of the network.

The Police are also examining possible interstate links behind the smuggling racket.

The state government has repeatedly said that dismantling drug syndicates remains a key priority, with law enforcement agencies continuing to conduct intelligence-based operations across Assam.
