New Delhi/Agartala, June 26 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that over the past 12 years, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government has worked with the vision of “Act East, Act Fast and Act First” to accelerate the development of the Northeastern region by harnessing its immense natural and cultural strengths.

In a message on the occasion of the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival, the Prime Minister said: “We have endeavoured to unlock the region’s immense potential by building on its natural and cultural strengths, so that they become engines of prosperity for its people.”

A three-day Tripura Global Pineapple Festival and exhibition was inaugurated on Saturday at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi to showcase the quality and unique characteristics of Tripura’s pineapples and promote the state’s premium fruit in domestic as well as international markets.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha along with state’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Minister of State for Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) Sukanta Majumdar attended the inaugural function of the first ever three-day (June 27-29) Tripura Global Pineapple Festival.

Chief Minister Saha tagged the PM Modi’s message with his official X account.

Prime Minister Modi said that it is heart-warming to learn about the inauguration of the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026 in New Delhi.

He congratulated the Tripura government, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and all those associated with this thoughtful initiative to showcase Tripura’s renowned ‘Queen Pineapple’ to a wider audience.

Prime Minister Modi in his social media message on X said: “Blessed with nature’s abundance, Tripura is known for its horticultural produce. The ‘Queen Pineapple’, with its distinctive aroma and sweetness arising from the state’s unique natural conditions, is a source of pride for the people of Tripura. The grant of the GI tag to this exceptional product was an important recognition of Tripura’s rich agricultural heritage.”

The Prime Minister added that it is laudable that this festival brings together farmers, entrepreneurs, exporters, researchers, industry leaders and policymakers on a common platform.

“Such collaborations will help strengthen value chains, expand access to new markets, encourage innovation and create greater opportunities for our farmers. I am confident that these efforts will improve livelihoods and establish Tripura as a leading global source of premium pineapples,” he noted.

Prime Minister Modi said that he always been deeply touched by the warmth and affection of the people of Tripura.

“It is a privilege to work for their welfare. Initiatives such as this Festival reflect our commitment to ensuring that the unique strengths of the Northeast become an integral part of India’s growth story,” he added.

Prime Minister Modi said that he is confident that the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival will enhance the international recognition of ‘Queen Pineapple’, open new avenues for trade and investment and contribute to the prosperity of the farmers of Tripura.

“With the divine blessings of Mata Tripura Sundari, may the people of Tripura continue to progress on the path of peace, prosperity and development. I am confident that Viksit Tripura will play an important role in the journey towards Viksit Bharat,” he added.
