Ahmedabad, June 27 (IANS) Ahmedabad’s public transport network is set to be further integrated through a new mobility partnership following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to link taxi services with the city’s Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platform.

The agreement was signed on Saturday at the Mahatma Gandhi Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, in the presence of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.

The pact was concluded between the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited’s ‘Bharat Taxi’ to strengthen first and last-mile connectivity for public transport users.

Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited, which has been operating public transport services in the city for the past 16 years under the oversight of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, currently runs a fleet of 200 on-road electric, air-conditioned buses and 150 CNG buses as part of its green mobility initiative to provide low-emission, affordable transport options.

Under the memorandum, Bharat Taxi will integrate its services with the AMC’s MaaS (Mobility as a Service) platform, allowing access to AMTS, BRTS and future transport services through a single digital system.

The integration is intended to support on-demand taxi services alongside existing public transport options, reducing reliance on private vehicles and improving multimodal connectivity.

The initiative is also positioned to support broader objectives of sustainable urban mobility, digital governance and citizen-focused service delivery through coordinated transport systems.

Officials stated that the partnership is expected to expand mobility options for citizens by bringing multiple transport services onto a unified platform, aiming to improve accessibility and operational efficiency across Ahmedabad’s public transport ecosystem.

The launch event also witnessed the exchange of memorandums of understanding with several organisations, including Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, Gujarat State Cooperative Bank, Adani Airport Holdings, the Airports Authority of India, Western Railway’s Ahmedabad Division, and Gujarat Police, with the aim of strengthening the platform’s integration with transport infrastructure and public services across the state.
