MP: Burglary at retired judge’s house adds twist to Twisha Sharma case

Bhopal, June 29 (IANS) A burglary at the residence of retired judge Giribala Singh has added a fresh twist to the high-profile Twisha Sharma death case, just a day before she and her son Samarth Singh are scheduled to be produced before a court following the completion of their 14-day judicial remand.

The latest development comes weeks after another controversy rocked the case when a video purportedly showing the assault of Neeraj Dubey, a witness in the Twisha Sharma death case, went viral on social media. The incident was investigated by the police, but no official link has been established between the alleged assault and the burglary.

The two incidents, however, have unfolded during the ongoing CBI probe, drawing renewed attention to the case ahead of Tuesday’s court hearing.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating Twisha Sharma’s death, is expected to produce Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh before the court on Tuesday.

During the previous hearing, both appeared virtually from Bhopal Central Jail. It remains to be seen whether they will again join the proceedings by video conference or be produced in person before the court.

The burglary was reported at Giribala Singh’s residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area. According to police, more than four masked men allegedly entered the house through the rear upper gate on the intervening night of June 27 and 28 before carrying out the theft.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajneesh Kashyap told IANS that CCTV footage of the incident has been recovered and is being analysed. Police teams have been deployed to identify and apprehend the suspects, though no arrests have been made so far.

“The CCTV footage is available, and efforts are underway to identify the accused. Teams have been deployed to trace them,” the ACP said.

Police said the exact details of the stolen property are yet to be verified. According to the complaint lodged by Giribala Singh’s elder son, some gold and silver jewellery was stolen from the house.

“He informed us that gold and silver jewellery had been stolen, but could not specify the quantity. He said the exact details would be available after consulting the family,” ACP Kashyap said, adding that the investigation is still underway.

The burglary has also prompted concerns from the complainant’s legal side in the Twisha Sharma death case. Advocate Anurag Srivastava, counsel for Twisha Sharma’s family, said the incident had raised fresh concerns regarding the security of the premises.

He stated that they were quite satisfied that the accused were in jail and that there would be no further tampering with the material and evidence present in the house. But this incident had now disclosed that the house was easily accessible to anyone.

Police have maintained that the burglary investigation is being conducted independently of the CBI probe into Twisha Sharma’s death.

However, coming after the earlier alleged assault on a prosecution witness and just ahead of the expiry of the accused’s judicial remand, the latest incident has once again brought the case into sharp focus as the court prepares to hear the matter on Tuesday.
