Jaipur, June 30 (IANS) Describing the long-awaited Yamuna Water Project Agreement between Rajasthan and Haryana as a “golden chapter” in the history of water management, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said the agreement is far more than a water-sharing arrangement, it is a robust foundation for the bright future, water security, and prosperity of crores of Rajasthan’s residents.

Addressing a Press briefing at Jodhpur House in New Delhi, the Chief Minister said the realisation of this project, which had remained pending for nearly three decades, reflects the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the effective guidance of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, and the exemplary coordination between the Central and State Governments.

He said the “double-engine government” has once again demonstrated that when public welfare remains the highest priority, even decades-old challenges can be resolved through collective commitment and political will.

The Chief Minister noted that water security is a key pillar of Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Guided by this vision, the Rajasthan Government is working with dedication to ensure adequate and safe drinking water for every citizen.

He emphasised that water is not only the foundation of life but also the most critical resource for agriculture, industry, investment, employment generation, environmental conservation, and overall social development.

Highlighting the significance of the project, the Chief Minister said the Rs 34,102 crore initiative will provide a permanent solution to the state’s water challenges, particularly in water-scarce regions such as the Shekhawati belt.

The project will ensure safe drinking water for lakhs of families, reduce dependence on groundwater, strengthen water conservation efforts, and accelerate the socio-economic development of the region.

It will serve as a milestone in building a developed Rajasthan by promoting investment, employment, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure development. He further stated that improved water availability will create a conducive environment for industrial growth, attract fresh investment, revitalise agriculture and animal husbandry, generate employment opportunities, and significantly enhance the quality of life in both rural and urban areas.

The project will also reinforce Rajasthan’s long-term water management strategy and ensure sustainable water security for future generations.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for this historic achievement, the Chief Minister said that the spirit of cooperative federalism has been further strengthened under his leadership.

He also thanked HM Shah, stating that his continuous guidance, proactive initiatives, and efforts to facilitate constructive dialogue between Rajasthan and Haryana made it possible to arrive at a consensus on this complex issue.

The Chief Minister also acknowledged the technical guidance and administrative support extended by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil.

Reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to the timely and quality execution of the project, the Chief Minister said every phase will be closely monitored to ensure that its benefits reach the people of Rajasthan at the earliest.

He described the project as not merely an infrastructure initiative but a historic investment in Rajasthan’s future.

In the years ahead, Yamuna water will usher in a new era of development, prosperity, and well-being, transforming the lives of millions and laying a strong foundation for a developed, self-reliant, and water-secure Rajasthan.
