MP: Twisha Sharma’s father questions burglary at accused’s residence, seeks high-level probe

Bhopal, June 30 (IANS) Twisha Sharma’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, on Tuesday raised doubts over the recent burglary reported at the residence of retired judge Giribala Singh, the house where the actress-model died under suspicious circumstances, alleging that the incident could have been staged and calling for a high-level investigation.

Speaking to IANS after attending proceedings in a Bhopal court, Sharma said the alleged burglary had taken place at a property that remains a key crime scene in the CBI investigation, making the incident a matter of serious concern.

“The house where the alleged theft took place is itself a crime scene under investigation. Such an incident at a place under the scrutiny of the investigating agency naturally raises serious suspicion. We are consulting our legal team on the next course of action, but this matter certainly warrants a high-level investigation,” he said.

Questioning the timing of the incident, Sharma alleged that it may have been orchestrated to influence the judicial process.

“A theft during the course of an ongoing investigation compels one to think whether it was a staged incident, intended to be used later as judicial evidence. Even today’s proceedings gave the impression that this aspect requires a thorough investigation to ascertain who is behind it,” he said.

The alleged burglary also figured during Tuesday’s hearing before a Bhopal court when the defence sought permission for Giribala Singh to visit her residence in connection with the incident to identify the articles allegedly targeted.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed the request, arguing that the burglary and the investigation into Twisha Sharma’s death were separate matters. The court declined to entertain the oral plea, observing that such a request could only be considered on a formal written application.

Sharma also expressed concern about the delay in the post-mortem and forensic examination reports, noting that the family was awaiting crucial scientific findings.

“The post-mortem examination has reached a crucial stage as some technical analysis is still pending. The laboratory has informed us that, as per its protocol, all findings will be submitted together. We hope the reports are finalised soon so that the investigation can move forward without further delay,” he said.

The court later extended the judicial remand of Giribala Singh and her son, advocate Samarth Singh, till July 14. It also fixed July 3 for hearing on the CBI’s applications seeking voice samples of the accused and directions for Samarth Singh to provide the password of a laptop seized during the investigation for forensic examination.

The alleged burglary took place during the intervening night of June 27 and 28 at Giribala Singh’s residence. Police said unidentified persons allegedly entered the house and attempted to steal jewellery and certain documents before fleeing.

Officials at Katara Hills Police Station told IANS that a case had been registered and that efforts were underway to trace the accused involved in the incident.
