Country has transformed during PM Modi’s 12 years in office: Delhi BJP chief Malhotra

New Delhi, June 30 (IANS) Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Harsh Malhotra said on Tuesday that there is a clear difference between India before 2014 and India today due to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s commitment towards trust, development and public welfare.

He was addressing one of the Viksit Bharat conferences being organised by the Delhi BJP to mark the completion of 12 successful years of PM Modi in office.

As part of this series, a Viksit Bharat Conference was organised on Tuesday in the Model Town Assembly constituency, which was addressed by Malhotra and Chandni Chowk BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal.

Local BJP MLA Ashok Goyal, Chandni Chowk BJP District President Arvind Garg, and District BJP In-charge Rajesh Bhatia welcomed and felicitated Delhi BJP President Malhotra and MP Khandelwal.

On this occasion, Municipal Councillors Vikesh Sethi, Sushil Jaunti, Renu Aggarwal, and former District President Sardar Kuldeep Singh were also present.

Malhotra said that when Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister, he had said that out of every Rs 1 sent by the government, only 15 paise reached the people.

“However, after PM Modi assumed office, he took steps to weed out corruption and highlighted two important initiatives from the Red Fort — connecting people through Aadhaar with bank accounts and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,” the Delhi BJP President added.

He said that at that time the Opposition had made fun of these initiatives, but today the result is that the benefits of all government schemes are reaching beneficiaries directly into their bank accounts.

There is no middleman between the government and the beneficiaries now, Malhotra added.

The Delhi BJP President said that the previous Delhi government did not support many schemes of the Central government, but after the BJP government came to power in Delhi, the Ayushman Bharat scheme was provided to the people of the city on priority.

He added that the Delhi government has arranged an additional Rs 5 lakh, making the total benefit up to Rs 10 lakh.

He said that even poor citizens and senior citizens can take advantage of this scheme.

He added that during the previous Kejriwal-led Delhi government, people faced issues of poor drinking water quality and bad roads, but after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s government came to power, an announcement of Rs 100 crore was made for development works in the Assembly constituency.

He said that a BJP government means a government of the people, and it can be confidently said that the promises made to the people are being fulfilled gradually.

Speaking about the Yamuna river, Malhotra added that AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal repeatedly made false promises in the name of cleaning the Yamuna and misused the funds received from the Central government for the purpose.

He assured that the responsibility of cleaning the Yamuna is now with the BJP government and expressed confidence that the river will be cleaned within the next four years.

Khandelwal said that PM Narendra Modi has worked to bring transformation in the lives of people through various schemes and it is now our responsibility to ensure that the benefits of these schemes reach every household in Delhi.
