Jaipur, July 1 (IANS) Dacoit Jagan Gurjar, who was murdered inside Ajmer High-Security Jail on June 29, was cremated in his native village of Bhavutipura in Dholpur’s Dang region on Wednesday amid unprecedented security arrangements. Jagan’s son, Asaram, lit the funeral pyre. His three brothers, Pan Singh, Lal Singh, and Pappu Singh, were brought from jail under tight STF security to attend the last rites.

After paying their final respects, they were immediately escorted back to prison. The three were transported separately by teams of the Ajmer Police, Dholpur STF, and Dholpur Police.

Around 100 police personnel were deployed to ensure security throughout the ceremony.

Jagan’s body reached Bhavutipura around 7:30 A.M. The entire village was virtually turned into a fortress, with police from nine stations, Sone Ka Gurja, Bari Sadar, Bari Kotwali, Basai Dang, Kanchanpur, Nihalganj, Dholpur Sadar, Rajakheda, and Mania, deployed across the area.

Additional SP Shravan Kumar and Circle Officer Mahendra Kumar personally supervised the security arrangements.

Jagan Gurjar was allegedly murdered inside Ajmer High-Security Jail on June 29. According to his family, Vishnu, an accused in the Kuldeep Jaghina murder case from Bharatpur, strangled Jagan with a towel inside their barrack. The two hardcore inmates had been lodged together.

Following the incident, Jagan’s family staged a protest, alleging negligence by the jail administration. After talks with officials on Tuesday, the family agreed to the post-mortem, which was conducted in Ajmer before the body was handed over.

Jagan’s son, Asaram, lit the funeral pyre after his three jailed brothers were taken back under police escort. Nearly 100 police personnel, including STF and district police, were deployed.

Forces from nine police stations secured the village. Pan Singh, Lal Singh, and Pappu Singh were brought separately to the cremation ground, allowed a brief final viewing, and then escorted back to jail.

Former Bari Pradhan Puran Singh termed the incident a “complete failure of the jail administration” and demanded an impartial enquiry and strict action against those responsible. Jagan’s son Asaram accused the SHO of Bari police station of falsely implicating him in a criminal case.

The murder has raised serious questions about security inside Ajmer High-Security Jail. Jail Superintendent Paras Jangid said CCTV footage outside the barrack showed Jagan and Vishnu interacting normally before the incident.

However, investigators found toothpaste smeared on a CCTV camera, allegedly to obstruct recording, while a gamchha (towel) was found hanging from a fan, suggesting an attempt to portray the murder as a suicide.

A magisterial enquiry has been initiated to probe the circumstances surrounding the killing and possible lapses in prison security.
