Hanuman Beniwal demands CBI probe into Jagan Gurjar’s murder in Ajmer jail, questions security lapses

Jaipur, July 2 (IANS) After the murder of notorious dacoit Jagan Gurjar inside the Ajmer High Security Jail, Nagaur MP and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) Chief Hanuman Beniwal on Thursday raised serious questions over the prison administration and security system, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the incident.

Beniwal said it was impossible for a single inmate to carry out the murder without collusion within the prison system.

“Such an incident cannot happen without involvement from top to bottom in the jail administration,” he said, questioning the circumstances under which CCTV cameras were allegedly switched off and covered with a tape.

The Nagaur MP asserted that only an impartial CBI investigation could uncover the truth.

“If the government has the courage, it should order a CBI inquiry. Only then will the entire truth come out, and many senior officials from the jail department, police, and even the government could face action,” he said.

Beniwal added that although inmate Vishnu Singh has confessed to killing Jagan Gurjar, it is difficult to believe that one person alone could have overpowered and murdered the notorious dacoit.

He reiterated that the alleged tampering with CCTV cameras and the circumstances surrounding the killing raise several unanswered questions.

Soon after the incident on June 29, Beniwal had posted on social media platform X, calling Jagan Gurjar’s death in Ajmer High Security Jail a highly serious matter.

He said the murder in one of Rajasthan’s most secure prisons exposed major lapses in the jail’s security and functioning.

According to Beniwal, the incident prima facie points to serious negligence by the jail administration, while the possibility of collusion or a larger conspiracy cannot be ruled out.

He urged the Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to immediately recommend a CBI investigation, saying that a departmental inquiry alone would not ensure a fair and transparent probe.

In his social media post, Beniwal also expressed concern over the increasing number of crimes allegedly being orchestrated from Rajasthan’s prisons.

He referred to recent incidents involving threats to the Chief Minister, extortion calls targeting businessmen and citizens, drug trafficking, and organised crime allegedly being operated from inside jails.

He said these incidents suggest that hardened criminals and mafia networks are continuing to run their operations from prison, posing a serious challenge to law and order in the state.

Jagan Gurjar was allegedly strangled to death inside Ajmer High Security Jail on June 29.

Fellow inmate Vishnu Singh has been named as the prime accused in the case. However, Jagan’s family has alleged that the murder was part of a larger conspiracy involving jail officials.

His brother, Pappu Gurjar, claimed that seven to eight people participated in the killing and alleged that Jagan had been administered sleeping pills before the attack.

He also claimed that the jail’s CCTV cameras were switched off during the incident.

Jagan Gurjar’s last rites were performed on Wednesday in Bhavutipura village in Dholpur’s Dang region, with his son Asaram lighting the funeral pyre.

Heavy security arrangements were in place, with police personnel from nine police stations deployed during the funeral.
