New Delhi, July 4 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three individuals, including two public servants from Northern Railways and a private person, in connection with a bribery case involving the award of railway tenders.

Those arrested have been identified as a Chief Materials Manager and a Senior Clerk posted at the Northern Railways headquarters, along with a representative of a private company. The agency has registered a case against six accused in total, including a Deputy Chief Materials Manager, the private company, and two of its representatives, as well as unknown other public servants and private persons.

The CBI launched an investigation after receiving allegations that the accused public servants at Northern Railways were colluding with representatives of a private company and indulging in corrupt practices.

According to the agency, they were extending undue favours for the award of railway tenders to the private company in exchange for illegal gratification, while also violating the prescribed procedures and norms governing public procurement.

During the trap operation conducted by the CBI, a bribe amount of Rs 1 lakh, which was transacted and delivered by the accused representative of the private company to the Chief Materials Manager, was recovered from the spot.

Following the operation, the two public servants and the bribe-giver were arrested.

The agency also conducted searches at multiple locations across Delhi, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, and Kanpur, leading to the recovery of several incriminating documents and digital devices. Officials said these materials are likely to provide crucial evidence in the case.

The probe into the matter is continuing, with the CBI examining the role of other accused individuals and the extent of the alleged irregularities in the tender process.

Further arrests have not been ruled out as the investigation progresses.
