Six-day rain spell likely across TN, Puducherry as deep depression moves inland

Chennai, July 5 (IANS) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next six days, with moderate showers expected at isolated places as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal continues to influence weather conditions across southern India.

According to the latest weather bulletin issued by the IMD, a deep depression currently lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts.

The system is expected to move west-northwestwards over the next three days before moving inland towards North Odisha and North Chhattisgarh. Although the weather system is located well north of Tamil Nadu, its circulation is expected to enhance moisture inflow over the state, creating favourable conditions for rainfall in several districts.

The IMD has forecast moderate rainfall at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from July 5 to July 10. While widespread heavy rain is not anticipated at this stage, intermittent showers are likely to bring some relief from the prevailing warm and humid conditions in many parts of the state.

Residents have been advised to keep track of updated weather forecasts, particularly in districts prone to waterlogging during periods of continuous rainfall.

Local authorities are also expected to monitor the situation and respond to any weather-related disruptions if required.

For Chennai, the weather department has predicted partly cloudy skies with the possibility of light rain in a few parts of the city during the day. Brief spells of rain are expected intermittently, although prolonged rainfall is unlikely.

Despite the chance of showers, daytime temperatures in the city are expected to remain high, with the maximum likely to touch around 37 degrees Celsius, while humidity levels are expected to stay elevated.

The IMD said weather conditions could change depending on the movement and intensity of the deep depression as it advances inland over eastern India. It added that updated forecasts would be issued as the system evolves.

The expected rainfall is likely to provide some relief to regions that have experienced dry weather and high temperatures in recent days. However, the weather department has advised the public to remain alert to changing weather conditions and follow official advisories issued from time to time.
