Delhi BJP leader asks CM Rekha Gupta to end encroachment in Walled City constituencies of AAP MLAs

New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor on Sunday wrote to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, urging her to conduct surprise inspections on main roads to expose the encroachment mafia, allegedly promoted by Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, in the Chandni Chowk, Ballimaran, Matia Mahal and Sadar Bazar Assembly constituencies.

Kapoor urged that the Chief Minister personally assess the deteriorating condition of these roads and the growing encroachment and order immediate corrective action.

The Delhi BJP Spokesperson said that all four Assembly constituencies — Chandni Chowk, Ballimaran, Matia Mahal and Sadar Bazar — are represented by AAP MLAs.

He added that a majority of Councillors in these areas also belong to the AAP and due to alleged political patronage of the opposition party representatives, encroachments on roads and footpaths have continued to increase.

Kapoor said that representations to the elected representatives from the AAP have not yielded any result and area MLAs and Councillors have shown little concern for the maintenance and upkeep of the main roads.

The BJP leader, in his letter, alleged that AAP MLAs and Councillors focus on the maintenance and cleanliness of lanes and localities predominantly inhabited by a particular community, while neglecting the development and maintenance of the main roads and other neighbourhoods which they feel do not house their supporters.

He reiterated that due to the negligence and alleged connivance of AAP MLAs, major roads including S.P. Mukherjee Marg, Khari Baoli, Chawri Bazar, Sitaram Bazar, Shraddhanand Marg, Qutub Road, Sadar Bazar and Pahari Dhiraj Marg have become severely damaged, while encroachments have crossed all acceptable limits.

Earlier, Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra chaired the first review meeting on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls initiated by the Election Commission in Delhi.

The meeting reviewed the progress made during the first two days of the SIR exercise, which commenced on July 1.

The meeting was attended by BJP National Secretary Om Prakash Dhankhar, Delhi BJP Organisation General Secretary Pawan Rana, SIR In-charge and Member of Parliament Yogender Chandolia, Delhi SIR Team members Ramesh Bidhuri and Sanket Gupta, besides district presidents, district SIR team members, and Booth Level Agents coordinators from all districts.
