Aizawl, July 5 (IANS) Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) on Sunday expressed confidence that the women of the state would play a pivotal role in the successful implementation of initiatives aimed at building a Viksit Mizoram, thereby contributing significantly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

On the occasion of the 52nd Foundation Day of the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), one of Mizoram’s oldest and largest women’s organisations, the Governor extended his warm greetings and best wishes to the organisation and its members.

In his message, Governor Singh said that since its inception on July 6, 1974, with the noble motto, “Service to Others”, MHIP has evolved into one of the foremost women’s voluntary organisations in Mizoram.

“Over the decades, it has worked tirelessly to safeguard the rights, dignity and welfare of women and vulnerable sections of society, while preserving the rich Mizo culture, traditions and heritage, and contributing significantly to social welfare and community development,” he added.

He noted that for more than five decades, the organisation has played a pivotal role in protecting women’s rights, combating violence and discrimination, and advocating key reforms in marriage, divorce and inheritance laws.

“Through its sustained efforts in the fields of education, health awareness, legal aid and social service, MHIP has empowered countless women and families across the state,” the Governor said.

Highlighting the organisation’s guiding philosophy, Governor Singh said: “Guided by the principle of ‘Women’s welfare, justice and empowerment through social service’, MHIP continues to make valuable contributions to society. The conferment of the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar in 2016 stands as a well-deserved recognition of its dedicated and impactful work.”

He also expressed confidence that MHIP would continue to work closely with the state government, other non-governmental organisations and all sections of society in implementing various welfare programmes for women and children.

“As women are the cornerstone of every family — the fundamental institution where character is built, values are nurtured and the future of every nation takes shape — I am confident that MHIP members will play a vital role in the successful implementation of initiatives aimed at building a Viksit Mizoram, thereby contributing to the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047,” Governor Singh added.

The Governor wished the MHIP continued success, strength and greater achievements in the years ahead as it carries forward its mission of service and empowerment.
