New Delhi, July 6 (IANS) An alleged bootlegger was arrested from east Delhi’s Nand Nagri area, and 198 quarter bottles of illicit liquor, a scooty used for transportation, and Rs 2 lakh suspected to be the proceeds of the illegal liquor trade were seized, police said on Monday.

The arrest was made as part of an ongoing drive against the illicit liquor network being conducted by the staff of Police Station Nand Nagri.

According to the police, at around 9.35 a.m. on Sunday, a team comprising Head Constable Sachin and Constables Sanju and Sanjay was on routine patrolling and checking duty near the A-3 Block Sabzi Mandi in Nand Nagri when they intercepted a man riding a scooty under suspicious circumstances.

Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 198 quarter bottles, equivalent to 35.640 litres, of illicit liquor from his possession.

The accused was identified as Jasvir Singh, 20, son of Harpal Singh and a resident of A-3 Block, Nand Nagri.

During sustained interrogation, Jasvir Singh allegedly disclosed that he had been supplying and selling illicit liquor on behalf of Sunny, son of Sanjay and a resident of B-Block, Nand Nagri.

Acting on the information provided by the accused, the police conducted a search at Sunny’s residence and recovered Rs 2 lakh, which is suspected to be the proceeds from the illegal liquor business.

Following the recovery, Police Station Nand Nagri registered FIR No. 377/2026 under Sections 33, 45 and 58 of the Delhi Excise Act and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the illicit liquor, identify other members of the network, and trace the entire supply chain.

During the investigation, police also found that the absconding accused Sunny comes from a family with a criminal background. His late father, Sanjay, was listed as a Bad Character of the area. Police said Sunny’s mother, Rajni, is also listed as a BC and has 14 previous criminal cases registered against her under the Delhi Excise Act and the NDPS Act.

Police records further revealed that the accused, Jasvir Singh, has one previous involvement in a motor vehicle theft case.
