Jaipur, July 7 (IANS) Three children were killed, and their parents sustained critical injuries after an out-of-control trolley rammed into a family standing by the roadside in Jaipur’s Shyam Nagar area on Tuesday morning, police officials said.

The tragic accident occurred near Hotel Highway King on the busy 200-Foot Bypass (Ajmer Road).

According to preliminary information, the speeding trolley lost control, broke through a metal roadside safety railing and struck five members of the family before coming to a halt.

The driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident, officials added.

The deceased children have been identified as Ramesh, Ratan and Deepak. Their parents, Chandra Prakash and Kailashi, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to SMS Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Police shifted the bodies of the three children to the SMS Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Eyewitnesses said the trolley was travelling at high speed when the driver lost control and hit the family members.

The vehicle crossed the road divider, smashed through an iron safety railing and ran over the family standing nearby.

The impact triggered panic in the area, with local residents rushing to rescue the victims before police and ambulance teams arrived.

Officials from the Shyam Nagar police station reached the scene shortly after receiving information about the accident. The injured were taken to hospital, while a crane was used to remove the damaged trolley from the road and restore traffic movement.

Police said the trolley driver fled after the accident, and a search has been launched to trace and arrest him.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the exact cause of the accident. CCTV footage from the area is also being examined to establish how the vehicle lost control.

The incident caused heavy traffic congestion on the 200-Foot Bypass for some time before normal movement was restored.
