Kolkata, July 7 (IANS) Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday made a satirical social media post claiming that the successes of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s double-engine government in West Bengal in its first two months are limited to poaching among elected public representatives in the opposition camp.

In his social media post on Tuesday afternoon, Banerjee, also the nephew of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, outlined 15 “achievements” of the BJP’s double-engine government in West Bengal in two months.

According to him, breaking away elected MPs and MLAs from the Trinamool Congress and creating a proxy Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, who functions at the direction of the state BJP and acts as their stooge, are among the prime successes of the new state government in its first two months of rule.

He also said that freezing Trinamool Congress’s bank accounts in an attempt to financially choke the party, implicating thousands of Trinamool Congress workers in cases, and attempting to weaken and divide the party by every possible means were other major successes of the current ruling dispensation.

While blocking roads for seven days in the name of Yoga Diwas is yet another success story, Banerjee claimed that more than 14 rape incidents across the state, including cases involving minors, had been reported in the last two months.

Demolition of minority religious institutions in broad daylight, placing the opposition leader under house arrest and removal of more than one crore genuine beneficiaries from the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme were other major achievements of the current ruling dispensation.

According to him, removing eggs from children’s mid-day meals for the first time in West Bengal and replacing them with vegetarian alternatives, thereby depriving children of a vital source of protein, was yet another success story.

Central and state security cover for those who compromise and lick their feet, while withdrawing protection from those who refuse to bend, was yet another success story of the new BJP-ruled government.

He also alleged that central and state agencies, such as the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Enforcement Directorate, the Special Task Force, and the Criminal Investigation Department, have continued serving notices and conducting raids against those who refused to bow to the new authoritative rule.

Banerjee also accused Solicitor General Tushar Mehta of appearing for the West Bengal Police under the instructions of a ruling party leader from New Delhi, seeking repeated adjournments and attempting to persuade the judiciary so that no interim relief is granted to those fighting for the people of West Bengal.

Banerjee said if the BJP truly believes it has won West Bengal through the people’s mandate, then why does it appear so fearful of political opposition and the Trinamool?

On Tuesday, he made another social media post claiming that like other BJP-ruled states, West Bengal too was now becoming increasingly unsafe for women and girls. He said a tribal woman’s body was recovered today from a field in Purba Bardhaman, and her husband has alleged rape and murder. This is the horrific reality behind BJP’s grand promises of “Nari Suraksha”, he said, adding that women continue to live in fear and families continue to seek justice.

He said BJP’s lofty slogans stand brutally exposed within just two months of coming to power, and questioned whether no commission would now take stock of the situation, or if this is the “guarantee” that PM Modi spoke about before polls.
