New Delhi, July 7 (IANS) The All India Congress Committee has announced the formation of a new Political Affairs Committee for the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the proposal, and the decision has come into immediate effect, according to a press release issued by the AICC on Tuesday.

The reconstituted committee brings together a mix of senior national and state leaders to strengthen the party’s organisational machinery in Uttarakhand.

Prominent members include Kumari Selja, Ganesh Godiyal, Yashpal Arya, Harish Rawat, Pritam Singh, Gurdeep Singh Sappal, Qazi Nizamuddin, Karan Mahara, Manoj Yadav, Surender Sharma, Harak Singh Rawat, Bhuvan Kapri, Prakash Joshi, Tilak Raj Behar, Mamta Rakesh, Manoj Tiwari, Vikram Singh Negi, Ravi Bahadur, Govind Singh Kunjwal, Nav Prabhat, Pradeep Tamta, Mahendra Pal Singh and Brahm Swaroop Brahamchari. The heads of all state frontal organisations will serve as ex officio members.

This development is being seen as a significant step by the Congress high command to unify various factions within the Uttarakhand unit and prepare the party for future electoral battles in the hill state.

The inclusion of experienced leaders, such as former Chief Minister Harish Rawat and other influential figures, is expected to provide strategic depth and cohesion to the state unit.

The reconstitution comes at a crucial time as the Congress seeks to regain lost ground in Uttarakhand, which has been ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for several years. The development is seen as the party’s renewed focus on strengthening state-level decision-making bodies.

The move is expected to improve coordination and boost the party’s performance in the state. The announcement has drawn considerable attention in Uttarakhand’s political circles, with many viewing it as a clear signal of the high command’s intent to revamp the state organisation.

With a diverse group of leaders now part of the Political Affairs Committee, the Congress aims to present a united front and effectively challenge the ruling dispensation in the coming days.
