BJP leaders hail PM Modi’s Indonesia visit, say honour reflects India’s rising global stature

New Delhi, July 8 (IANS) BJP leaders on Wednesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Indonesia, highlighting the deepening India-Indonesia ties, cultural connections between the two nations and the recognition given to him during the visit.

Bihar BJP President Sanjay Saraogi said Prime Minister Modi’s visit reflects the long-standing civilisational and cultural links between India and Indonesia, pointing to the presence of ancient temples and Ramayana-related heritage sites in the country.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Indonesia today, where there is a temple that is over 1,000 years old. The Indonesian government is preserving and maintaining it. When you visit Indonesia, you will find many temples dedicated to Lord Shri Ram and the entire Ramayana. Not only are there temples, but several sites associated with the Ramayana are also being maintained by the government…” Saraogi said.

BJP National Spokesperson C.R. Kesavan said Indonesia conferring its highest civilian award on Prime Minister Modi was a recognition of India’s growing influence and the Prime Minister’s leadership on the global stage.

“Indonesia conferring its highest civilian award on Prime Minister Narendra Modi is indeed a testament to New India’s rising global stature under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. This will be particularly disconcerting and upsetting for the Congress party because Indonesia is an 87 per cent Muslim-majority nation, and its decision to bestow its highest national honour on the Prime Minister clearly reaffirms his noble vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas…” Kesavan said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared highlights from his ongoing state visit to Indonesia, describing the bilateral relationship as “strong and vibrant” while showcasing key moments from his engagements in Jakarta.

Sharing a video on social media, PM Modi said, “The India-Indonesia friendship is strong and vibrant!” The video featured highlights from his ceremonial welcome, the honour conferred upon him, his address to the Indonesian Parliament and interactions with members of the Indian diaspora.

The Prime Minister’s visit has focused on expanding cooperation between New Delhi and Jakarta across strategic, economic and cultural areas. The trip comes as both countries seek to further strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and enhance collaboration in key sectors.

During the state visit, India and Indonesia concluded 20 comprehensive agreements and outcome documents aimed at boosting cooperation across multiple fields.

The discussions between Prime Minister Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto covered a wide range of issues, including defence exports, maritime connectivity, critical minerals, digital public infrastructure and trade.

The visit has also highlighted the historical and cultural bonds shared by the two countries, with both sides emphasising people-to-people connections alongside expanding economic and strategic cooperation.
