Moment of pride for the people of Telangana: KTR on World Bank report

Hyderabad, July 8 (IANS) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao said on Wednesday that the World Bank placing Telangana among India’s top five upper-middle-income states was a matter of pride for its people.

Rama Rao attributed the achievement to the efforts of the people of Telangana and the measures taken by BRS during its 10-year rule under the leadership of K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).

Reacting to reports on the World Bank’s per capita income classification, the BRS leader also stated this is a fitting response to those alleging that Telangana was financially bankrupt.

According to reports, five states have crossed the threshold of the World Bank’s upper-middle-income category based on per capita income.

Delhi tops the list with a per capita income of $6,217. Karnataka and Telangana ranked second and third with per capita income of $5,579 and $5,407, respectively. Tamil Nadu ($5,329) and Gujarat ($4,734) came fourth and fifth in the list.

“This is a moment of pride for the people of Telangana. The hard-won separate state has emerged as a prosperous one. A World Bank report has revealed that Telangana has surpassed the ‘upper-middle-income’ benchmark. It is a matter of pride for us that Telangana is among the top five states in the country to achieve this status,” KTR posted on ‘X’.

“What happened over the last 10 years? A region once plagued by abject poverty has transformed into a wealthy state. The people of Telangana are not paupers; they are the children of Mother Telangana, living in prosperity and abundance,” wrote the BRS leader.

“Telangana did not become a failed state; instead, it stands tall as a successful, wealthy state. Heartfelt congratulation to every citizen who poured their sweat, skills, and intellect into elevating Telangana from the ruins to the pinnacle of success,” he said.

KTR claimed that with the formation of Telangana, the state’s wealth has grown and people’s income has seen a remarkable rise.

“Not just national reports, but international organizations too confirm that the economy has developed remarkably under KCR’s visionary leadership,” he said, adding that the latest World Bank report serves as a fitting reply to those who spread baseless propaganda claiming the state was bankrupt.
