Kolkata gangster ‘Mini Feroz’ used foreign-made pistol bought with fake Nagaland licence: Police

Kolkata, July 8 (IANS) A Kolkata Police investigation into the activities of jailed gangster Feroz Khan, alias ‘Mini Feroz’, has revealed that he procured a foreign-made 9 mm pistol using a forged arms licence purportedly issued in Nagaland, officials said on Wednesday.

The Lalbazar (Kolkata Police headquarters) detectives recovered the pistol along with the magazine from him after Feroze was arrested on July 4.

Investigators also found that he had allegedly purchased a substantial quantity of ammunition using the fake licence and suspect that some of the bullets were used with illegal country-made firearms sourced from Munger in Bihar.

Police said they recovered three additional pistols, a single-shot firearm and several rounds of ammunition from the accused and one of his associates. Efforts are underway to identify the source of the weapons and ammunition.

A self-styled strongman of East Kolkata’s Gulshan Colony, Mini Feroz faces 37 criminal cases registered at various police stations, including Topsia and Anandapur. The charges range from attempted murder and extortion to assault and violations of the Arms Act, 1959. Investigators said he routinely used a 9 mm pistol to intimidate businessmen and real-estate promoters in the area while projecting it as a genuine firearm.

According to police, Feroz had fled to Bihar several months ago after switching off his mobile phone and frequently changing locations to evade arrest. He was eventually apprehended by officers of the Anti-Rowdy Section (ARS) near the Dankuni Toll Plaza in Hooghly district on July 4 along with his close associate, Md. Sajid.

The latest arrest stems from a fresh criminal case registered at Topsia Police Station on June 23, in which Feroz was accused of illegal possession, display and stockpiling of firearms. Investigators have also linked him to the September 2025 Gulshan Colony shootout and bombing case, during which members of his alleged gang were caught on CCTV hurling crude bombs, torching vehicles and attacking shopkeepers.

Following his arrest, detectives searched several premises linked to the gangster and recovered the foreign-made pistol as well as the forged Nagaland arms licence. Police said the document carried Feroz’s name but was backed by a fake Nagaland address and allegedly supported by forged identity credentials. Investigators suspect he used the licence to purchase weapons from a firearm dealer in Kolkata and are currently coordinating with the shop as part of the probe.
