Delhi HC adjourns hearing on Salman Khan’s plea to restrain ‘Kala Hiran’ release

New Delhi, July 9 (IANS) The Delhi High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing on Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s plea seeking to restrain the release of the proposed film “Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy” due to paucity of time.

The matter, listed before a single-judge Bench of Justice Jyoti Singh, will now be heard on Friday. In an earlier hearing, the Delhi High Court had issued notice to filmmaker Amit Jani and other respondents on Salman Khan’s plea seeking interim relief against the film’s release.

Khan has approached the High Court contending that the proposed film unlawfully exploits his personality rights and falsely portrays events associated with him without his consent.

According to the plea, the film is inspired by Khan’s 1998 blackbuck poaching case and his alleged rivalry with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had adjourned the hearing on the actor’s plea without granting any interim relief after directing that a complete copy of the plaint and accompanying documents be supplied to the respondent filmmaker.

During the earlier hearing, Salman Khan’s counsel, advocate Nizam Pasha, had submitted that the film is purportedly based on the actor’s life and sought an injunction against the project, informing the Delhi High Court that its poster and trailer had already been released even though the release date was yet to be announced.

Opposing the plea for urgent relief, counsel appearing for the filmmakers had submitted that they had not been served the complete set of documents in the case.

The dispute reached the Delhi High Court after Salman Khan’s legal team issued a notice to the makers of “Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy”, asking them to halt the film’s release and remove all promotional material, including posters and publicity content.

Directed by Bharat S. Shrinet and produced by Amit Jani, the film is reportedly inspired by Salman Khan’s 1998 blackbuck poaching case and also portrays his alleged rivalry with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The makers have described it as a blend of courtroom drama and crime thriller mounted on an international scale.
