Bhopal/Ujjain, July 9 (IANS) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will lay the foundation stone for the Rs 5,017 crore Ujjain–Jaora Greenfield four-lane highway project on Friday, the Madhya Pradesh government said on Thursday.

The 98.73-km highway will be built by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) and is expected to be completed in two years. It will pass through the Assembly constituencies of Ujjain South, Ghattiya, Nagda-Khachrod, Alot, and Jaora.

According to the state government, the project will improve road connectivity in the Malwa region and provide Ujjain with direct access to the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. It said the highway is expected to benefit around 3.5 million people and improve connectivity for 62 villages.

The government said the project will also help pilgrims and tourists travelling to Ujjain during Simhastha-2028. Visitors coming from Rajasthan, Gujarat, and other parts of the country are expected to have easier access to the city through the new highway.

The project includes three railway overbridges, nine major bridges, 26 medium bridges, and 417 culverts. Service roads will also be constructed on both sides from the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway interchange at the Jaora bypass to the Mhow–Neemuch four-lane highway to facilitate local traffic.

According to the government, the new highway will strengthen road links between Ujjain, Indore, Bhopal, and other parts of the Malwa region. It is expected to reduce travel time and improve the movement of passenger and commercial vehicles.

The state government said better road connectivity would help farmers transport agricultural produce to markets more quickly. It added that improved infrastructure would also support industrial growth, trade, and logistics activities in the region.

The project is expected to reduce fuel consumption, improve road safety, and lower transportation costs. It described the Ujjain–Jaora Greenfield highway as one of the state’s major infrastructure projects that would contribute to the economic and social development of the Malwa region after its completion.

The development project is part of the state’s efforts to strengthen road infrastructure and improve connectivity between key religious, agricultural, and commercial centres in Madhya Pradesh.
