Chennai, July 10 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay left for Karur on Friday morning to hand over government job appointment orders and welfare assistance to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent Karur stampede.

He is also scheduled to address a public meeting and participate in a series of official government programmes during the visit.

The Chief Minister departed Chennai by air and is expected to arrive at Tiruchy Airport before travelling by road to Karur. A grand reception has been planned by party workers and supporters along the route.

Vijay will take part in a roadshow covering nearly 10 kilometres before reaching the Atlas Kalaiyaranga Ground on the Karur-Salem Bypass Road, where he is scheduled to address a large public gathering.

A massive pavilion has been erected at the venue to accommodate the expected crowd.

After the public meeting, the Chief Minister will briefly halt at the Government Tourist House before proceeding to the Karur District Collectorate for an official government function.

During the programme, CM Vijay will distribute compassionate appointment orders to eligible members of families who lost their loved ones in the Karur stampede. He will also hand over welfare assistance and benefits under various government schemes to selected beneficiaries.

The compassionate appointments form part of the state government’s relief and rehabilitation measures aimed at providing financial security to the bereaved families. The welfare assistance to be distributed during the event includes benefits under several government schemes for eligible recipients.

Following the official function, the Chief Minister will return to Tiruchy Airport by road and fly back to Chennai later in the day. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the visit, with around 6,500 police personnel deployed across Karur district.

Security has been intensified along the Chief Minister’s travel route, at the public meeting venue, Collectorate and other key locations. Police have also implemented extensive traffic management and crowd-control measures to ensure the smooth movement of the Chief Minister’s convoy and the safe conduct of all scheduled programmes.
