Patna, July 10 (IANS) Former Rahu Panchayat Mukhiya Sanjay Kumar Yadav was found dead under suspicious circumstances near a tubewell in Raghopur village under the Bihta police station area of Patna district on Friday morning, police said.

The incident has triggered tension in the locality. The family members of the deceased have alleged that Sanjay was murdered. They, along with local residents, staged a road blockade in protest.

According to police, local residents heading to nearby fields noticed the body lying near the tubewell and immediately informed the Bihta Police Station and the victim’s family. A police team reached the spot, secured the area, and began an investigation.

A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team from Patna has also been called to examine the scene and collect scientific evidence.

The family of Sanjay Kumar Yadav has alleged that he was murdered and that his body was dumped near the field to conceal the crime. Demanding a thorough investigation, family members have sought strict action against those responsible.

Police said Sanjay Kumar Yadav had several criminal cases registered against him, including offences under the Arms Act. Officials also stated that he had been absconding in connection with multiple cases.

Investigators are examining whether these cases have any connection with his death, while also exploring other possible motives.

Following the recovery of the body, angry residents blocked the Bikram–Bihta main road and staged a protest. Some protesters also resorted to arson during the demonstration, prompting police to deploy personnel to restore order and bring the situation under control.

Bihta Station House Officer Amit Kumar said that the exact cause of death has not yet been established. He stated that no obvious external injury marks had been found on the body during the preliminary examination, and that investigators were awaiting forensic findings and the post-mortem report.

“A police team reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and is investigating the matter. The Patna FSL team has also been informed. We are examining whether it is a case of murder or something else. Sanjay Kumar Yadav had several criminal cases registered against him, including under the Arms Act, and he was absconding in multiple cases. A comprehensive investigation is underway,” SHO Amit Kumar said.

Police have not ruled out any possibility and are investigating the case from multiple angles, including homicide and other potential causes of death.

The postmortem examination, forensic analysis, and other evidence collected from the scene are expected to help determine the circumstances surrounding the former Mukhiya’s death.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the area to prevent any further unrest.
